Halloween Movie Marathon
Aaron & I have been moving through our Halloween movie list at a pretty good pace. SInce he’s super into Hollywood-ized stuff, I’m offering an alternative viewpoint:
Watched:
The Ring (8/10): One of the best scary movies out there for atmosphere, but the special effects and over-messaging lose me a bit)
Ringu (9/10): The backstory trumps the US remake’s; plus, the TV scene is much more realistic.
Dawn of the Dead (6/10): Great for an adrenaline rush + good ending; baby scene is suuuuuper lame
Freaks (7/10): “Gooble goggle — one of us!” freaks my shit out.
Night of the Living Dead (7/10): So relevant. I am now officially terrified of all little girls.
The Descent (6/10): Great on both psychological & monster-movie levels; but, the “girl power” stereotype and excessive back story (in the director’s cut) detract.
Ginger Snaps (6/10): Cool parallels to adolescence; gets a bit slow at the end.
The Mist (7/10): The end kills me. Watch the B&W Director’s cut for a more Twilight-Zone effect.
Rocky Horror Picture Show (10/10): Duh. The best movie ever.
